The end of April saw the opening of the second 18-hole
golf course in Croatia. This one it appears however, is one of a few
of its kind in the world.

This golf course is situated on the northeastern part of Veli Brijun,
and island in the Brijuni archipelago and the Brijuni National Park.
The golf course is located in an area between the crystal blue sea
that has a safari park and where numerous animals – zebras, moufl
on sheep, deer and many others roam freely and untroubled. Unlike
most European golf courses on which the grass is mown two to
three times a week, this Brijuni grass will only be mown a few times
a year, as it is the animals that will care for its maintenance. That is
only one of the specifi c things about this golf course, laid out based
on drawings made back in 1923 when members of the elite of the
time played golf on these same hillsides.

The landscaping of the area around the golf course was done based
on these same plans. On the site of the former golf club, that golfers
usually refer to as the 19th hole, a wooden edifi ce has been constructed
in the original style where players and visitors can freshen
up with a drink and a view of the sea.

Along with the new golf course, tourists will this year be awaited by
an upgraded safari park, renovated harbour for boats and some new
attractions. Visitors will, namely, have an opportunity to reserve only
for themselves for one day a small island on which lunch or dinner
will be served for them, and another new attraction is the Sony and
Lanka Bar, situated adjacent to the living quarters of elephants of
the same name.
