DUE TO GREAT PROGRESS IN RELATIONS BETWEEN BiH AND CROATIA INTERSTATE COUNCIL IS NO LONGER NECESSARY
The relations between BiH and the Republic of Croatia have progressed to that extent that the institution of the Interstate Council for cooperation of the two countries is no longer necessary in this form, is the position of the two state delegations following the conclusion of the 10th session of the Council on Thursday in Sarajevo. “We have agreed to launch an initiative for organizing a meeting of the presidents and prime ministers of three countries – Serbia and Montenegro, Croatia and BiH, which would be hosted by the President of the Republic of Croatia, Stjepan Mesic”, BiH Presidency Chair Sulejman Tihic told a press conference on Thursday. He added that the meeting will take place in Dubrovnik and that it should focus on the current situation and improving of mutual relations, resolving of certain issues and problems. Apart from redefining the Interstate Council, the meeting in Sarajevo on Thursday also focused on the current relations between BiH and the Republic of Croatia, their road to the EU, the regime of using the Port Ploce and building the bridge Peljesac-land, and return of displaced persons, with accent on return to Posavina. Opinions were also exchanged on the infrastructural projects that concern both countries, starting from Corridor 5C, canal Vukovar-Samac, i.e. Danube-Sava, hydroelectric plant Trebisnjica and airport Zeljava, EU Enlargement, cooperation with the ICTY, and the regional matters – forthcoming referendum in Montenegro and negotiations on status of Kosovo. Talks also focused on improving the economic relations and the matter of fired workers in the Republic of Croatia in the period from 1991 to 1995. The Croatian President was also informed about the first phase of constitutional reforms in BiH. It was stated that the second and the other phases would follow after the October General elections. President of the Republic of Croatia Stjepan Mesic expressed support to everything that will help BiH function like a normal state. He expressed his personal stand that the current constitutional reforms should protect the interests of all three constituent peoples and ensure the mechanisms that will not block the constitutional amendments, which are envisioned in the second and third phase. "We believe that relations between the two states have improved so that we need no Interstate Council, at least not in that form, since these are two sovereign, European states, and the issue of relations should be solved through institutions in charge," said Sulejman Tihic, the chairman of BiH's tripartite presidency. Speaking after the council's 10th session, held in Sarajevo on Thursday, Croatian President Stipe Mesic echoed his counterpart's words. "Our relations are good and are on an ascending line," he said. The BiH-Croatia Interstate Council was... read on: http://http://www.setimes.../21/feature-01 |
