Which islands do you recommend based on these interests:
1. Quiet - as off the beaten path as you can get with very little nightlife. 2. Beach is unimportant. 3. History, architecture, gastronomy IS important. 4. Small charming villages injected with a lot of cultural interest. Thanks for your suggestions!

Bearing in mind your criteria I would definitely include Korcula town (for the architecture). You might like to try Sipan or Lopud they have plenty of charm! Hvar/Starigrad/Jelsa and Vrboska have plenty of architectural interest but also quite touristic. You'll see plenty of architectural interest in Dubrovnik/Split (the Diocletian Palace) and Korcula but also quite busy.

You shouldn't leave the Island National Parks in Croatia. There are Brijuni, Kornati and Mljet. Each of this NP is beautiful and other as the others - some info about it is here: http://www.waymag.com/travel-info/croat ... nati-mljet
